Nothing to do with Iraq's Elections (or is it?)

So everybody knows the Iraqi's got out to vote in huge numbers, and I didn't blog about it. Darn. I guess being part of history is more important than writing about it after all, not that I did much more than watch the lights blink on the servers yet again.

If you want the Lefty spin on it, well they changed the subject. The Rigthty spin is, the process is working. I like that: If something sinks your agenda, bail harder. If something validates your agenda, call the spade a spade. Any of you Leftys out there want bigger pails?

Meanwhile boredom does generate unusual distractions, like messing with the Christmas decorations.....

Puttin' up the Tree

We had a fun time today. Apparently someone got a real live tree in the mail and we put it up in the JOC (That would be the Joint Operations Center for you folks back home). Anyway the Aussie Flight Sergeant and I had a great time setting it up and adding the decorations. I must say it looks like the real McCoy sitting in its own little space next to the JumboTron.

The Command Sergeant Major made grumblings about no national flags, but we mutinied none the less and so far there is a US and an Australian flag hanging proudly from Deployment Santa atop the tree. The folks from other countries were asked to bring in something from their own home country to add to the tree and make it a really multi-force effort.

Sorta makes me want to be home for the holidays. Now that would be a first.

Link to The Multi-National Force Web Page

I've been meaning to post this link to the MNF-I web page for awhile now. It is the official site for military press releases in Iraq. I hope to begin commenting on them in the near future. Meanwhile I'm sure there's enough to check out on the site.

Swamp Victory

Dix sent me pics of all the standing water we had on Camp Victory last spring. Ahh the memories; muck, mud and water up to the tops of your boots. Hey, it's just like being in the Army!

Celebratory Gunfire - Oh My!

Last night the Iraqi Soccer team won an important match in the Asia Cup(or something like that) and the fireworks Iraqi style were out in force. For a little while there people were trying to say the base was under attack. Har! Oh really? Important question so listen carefully. Were the tracers going up or out? Up, huh, not out, like following the ground? Celebratory gunfire, ya goof!

To live in exciting times!

Stack Your Rack!

Want to see what your military ribbons look like? Stack 'em and rack 'em at GruntsMilitary.com.

The site has a forum and a listing of Jodies(that would be cadence songs) among other things. It is really worth a trip over there to check them out.

Thanks to Dix (who was playing with it when I saw the site).
